CHEEZ-IT
Sustainable Packaging

Our world is currently going through a landfill problem. Graphic/packaging designers are responsible for most of the packaging in the landfills. In this Cheez-It package re-design, I attempt to solve the wasteful packaging problems from reduction of materials to storage problems and at the same time reviving the fun image of the Cheez-It brand.

-Cheez-It Boxes cannot be recycled.
-They are made out of CRB (Coated Recycled paperboard).

Packaging Problems
Plastic Bag:
160-300 Plastic bags are dumped in landfills every year per person
1,000,000 per minute!
Box:
9% of garbage consists of cardboard boxes. Coated cardboard can't be recycled.

Solution!

Box:
Waterproof cardboard made from biodegradable sugar cane pulp. This will allow recycling of the treated cardboard. The sugar cane waste from the Cheez-It farms can be used to make the cardboard and the water-proof coating.
